Dr Shelley Obst Clinical Psychologist
Shelley is a clinical psychologist with a strong commitment to building collaborative and respectful client relationships, grounded in honesty and warmth. Shelley has a range of experience working in various perinatal, child/ adolescent and adult mental health services. She has completed a Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) and a Doctorate of Clinical Psychology at Deakin University.
Shelley has experience in assessment, diagnosis and interventions, working with a variety of mental health difficulties, including adjustment, depression and anxiety disorders, perfectionism, issues in the parent-child attachment relationships and grief and loss. In addition, Shelley has a special interest and extensive experience in working with individuals with mild to severe obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and within the perinatal field, including antenatal and postnatal depression and anxiety and working with the parent-infant relationship. Shelley also has an interest in working with older adults and is understanding of life transition complexities.
Shelley provides an individualised approach for each client, drawing on a range of evidence-based therapeutic models. Shelley's therapeutic approach encompasses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), mindfulness and solution-focused therapy. In addition to Shelley's private practice work, she also works as a clinical psychologist at The Melbourne Clinic inpatient OCD program, providing individual assessments and interventions, and facilitating group psycho-education and skills-based programs.
She is based in Inner Melbourne - Carlton, servicing the Melbourne area and surrounds offering both face to face and telehealth sessions.
